Here are three events planned for this summer that are sure to be a blast! Whether you’re local to one of these events or planning to travel, you’ll want to hit the road with your inflatable paddle board and explore all the paddle boarding possibilities these events have to offer. From Suttons Bay, Michigan to San Clemente, California, you won’t want to miss these event destinations!
45 North Solstice Paddle Festival in Suttons Bay, Michigan
Tucked away in the northern reaches of Lake Michigan, you’ll find Grand Traverse Bay. And tucked away in Grand Traverse Bay, you’ll find Suttons Bay. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — June 17–19, 2022 — Suttons Bay is where the 45 North Solstice Paddle Festival is held. It’s the perfect event for anyone who loves to get out on the water with their inflatable SUP, kayak, or canoe. Day one is dedicated to the Annual Solstice Paddle, complete with food and drinks. Day two is a more adventurous experience that takes riders to the site of a shipwreck in Lake Michigan. The third day is dedicated to the paddle boarding race at Vineyard Inn of Suttons Bay. Best of all, you’re welcome to paddle board to your heart’s content in between events.
San Clemente Ocean Festival in San Clemente, California
This ocean festival is dedicated to all-things sea and sun! It’s set for Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, 2022. Events include a Dolphin Dash for kids, lifeguard competitions (including the Paddle Board Rescue Relay), surf contests, and much more. There are dozens of activities to choose from, both on the water and on the beach. You’ll also find plenty of food and live music, along with an ocean art show and a sand sculpture competition. Whether you love to use your paddle board for surfing or you just want to casually cruise along the San Clemente shore, you’re sure to have a blast!
Ohio River Paddlefest in Cincinnati, Ohio
Saturday, August 6, 2022, brings paddle boarders from all walks of life together on the Ohio River. The Ohio River Paddlefest is considered the biggest paddle boarding event in the US, averaging over 2,000 participants (not including all the onshore visitors). The fest brings together those who love inflatable paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and almost any other paddle-powered watercraft you can think of. You can simply cruise along the river, or you can register for one of two races. There’s the Race to the Roebling, a 4.2-mile race for SUPs and kayaks. Or there’s the Seven Bridges Race, a 9-mile race any paddle-powered craft can join. Are you ready to test your skills on the Ohio River? No matter which events you check out this summer, it’s all about having fun on the water.
